“A Sweet Success” is a program of Sanctuary House, a non-profit organization in Greensboro. In 2008, Maya Aliff started a bake sale to raise money for the Sanctuary House. The bake sale went so well they started the baking program to teach useful skills to their members. The mission of Sanctuary House is to facilitate the recovery of adults with serious mental illness in Guilford County, so that they may achieve and sustain meaningful, satisfying roles and lives in the community. All proceeds for the baked goods sold go directly back into the programming at Sanctuary House. Click here to learn more about the Sanctuary House.
WHAT DOES THE BAKERY DO?
We provide fresh high quality desserts for both wholesale vendors such as retirement communities, coffee shops, and colleges as well as individual customers for birthdays, baby showers and weddings. Some of the items we create are cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and dessert bars.
HOW DOES THE BAKERY FULFILL OUR MISSION?
The Bakery provides members the opportunity to develop pre-vocational skills that are transferable to other employers and create employment opportunities. It promotes wellness and independence, and gives members building blocks for their future success. A Sweet Success Bakery assists clients with vocational aspirations and goals by providing gainful employment opportunities. We reach a niche of customers who want to support a nonprofit and get a great product that makes their dollars go farther; all while increasing public awareness of mental illness and providing income. The Bakery develops partnerships to enrich the community and create volunteer opportunities within Sanctuary House. Currently, Sanctuary House has contracts with several large local establishments including Guilford College, Green Bean, Pennybyrn at Maryfield and Wellspring Retirement.
FRESH BAKED GOODS
Not only are our desserts delicious, but A Sweet Success is unique from any bakery in Greensboro because we provide one-on-one job training for adults with special needs, and 100% of our proceeds are donated to Sanctuary House, a local day program for adults with mental illness.
